Why I love photographing Sunset
Sunset photography is a passion project of mine. Sunsets are one of those things that I have always been compelled to photograph purely for my own joy and sense of fulfillment.
In fact, sunsets were quite possibly the main thing that got me started in photography. I come from “Big Sky Country” in Montana, a place renowned for stunning natural landscapes and incredible sunsets. Over the course of many lonely years I bore witness to some otherworldly beautiful surreal displays, and though I cherished those moments, there was an inescapable nagging feeling that anything that incredible ought to be shared. Queue camera. Photography was at once the easiest, and most efficient way of sharing these beautiful natural moments. And best of all, photography meant preserving each of these fleeting moments in time indefinitely. Memories often fade too quickly, but with the click of a shutter; voilà, time frozen. Now many years later I can look back and relive sunsets and moments I may have otherwise forgotten, and see them again exactly as they were.
Skerries Sunsets
It’s been many years since I lived in Big Sky Country, but I am equally blessed by my surroundings here in Skerries, Co. Dublin. Skerries is arguably the single best vantage point for sunsets on Ireland’s East coast. What makes Skerries stand out as the best place for Sunset photography in Ireland’s Ancient East? Due to it’s unique geography, you can actually watch the sun rise and set over the Irish Sea from Skerries! Red Island, the Harbour, and North Beach all offer spectacular vantage points for Irish Sunset viewers. It’s a photographer’s dream with endless creative compositions framed by natural beauty like the rock pools of hoar rock or lively activity featuring the silhouettes of paddle boarders or the punters lining Quay Street taking in the sunset over a pint with friends.
Sunset Prints
I shoot sunset because I love them. Sometimes other folks like them too. And sometimes, they like them so much they want to buy a print for their home!
It’s incredibly rewording for me when someone appreciates my work so much that they want to invest in it as wall art of their home. I’m always thrilled to create a one-of-a-kind decor item and reinvigorated in the notion that it is bringing enrichment and joy to others in their personal space.
Please, contact me if you are interested in buying a print!
